Today I Am Becoming Who I Once Dreamed To Be
:: Cadillac Forge ::
Welcome to Cadillac Forge,
I have had a love for blades and sharp and pointy objects since I was very
young. I grew up in Humphrey,Ark. At the age of 7 I was given a L.C. Smith
double barrel 16 gauge shotgun, it had Damascus barrels.
He allowed me to ask him about a hundred questions and then invited me
back any time. Unfortunately
Ernie fell ill shortly after our visit and died. That was our only shop time we
ever spent together. His son contacted me about the sale of his shop, and
I knew instantly that was my chance to finally become a knife maker. So,
my wife Mary and I obtained a loan and purchased everything a new knife
maker could want lock, stock, and barrel. I discovered very quickly owning
the proper equipment does not make one a knife maker. I had passion
and good equipment but lacked knowledge. Went to reading
books, purchasing video tapes, studying all the knife forums on the Internet
and thru Internet contacts have met many very generous knife makers I
now call friends, who has helped me hone my skills, I have been very
fortunate to have been accepted in this realm with so many talented other
makers, I have discovered becoming a knife maker is not a destination but
a life long journey.

That was my first exposure to
Damascus and I was hooked on
the steel known as the painted
lady. Many years later in 1997, I
moved to Joplin Mo., and met
full time knife maker Ernie
Crowley. I was very impressed
with how giving he was, and as
soon as he realized I had a love
for knives he invited me to his
shop for a tour.
